Uwezo Tanzania generates evidence to advance learning and equity through Citizen Led Assessment and internationally recognized research, including Uwezo National Learning Assessments, National Life Skills Assessment, ICAN/ICAR, PAL-ELANA Early Learning Assessment, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Research, Functional Literacy Research, and Teachers’ KAPB Studies. Together, these initiatives assess children’s learning, life skills, early development, and teaching practices, informing policy, community action, and evidence-based education reforms
Uwezo Tanzania’s education interventions address challenges in access, equity, and learning quality by strengthening foundational skills for children and adolescents. Key interventions include the My Village Programme (Kijiji Changu) for Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) using the Jifunze Model, ALiVE – Action for Life Skills and Values in East Africa, Luminous Joyful Learning, and Data-Driven Advocacy for Foundational Learning. All interventions integrate cross-cutting themes to promote inclusive, resilient, and sustainable learning outcomes.
We empower communities to lead inclusive and sustainable development through participatory decision-making, capacity building, livelihood support, and climate-responsive actions. Through Uwezo na Jamii, we strengthen community ownership of children’s learning, health, and well-being by addressing barriers such as poor nutrition, mental health challenges, and climate-related shocks. We support school feeding initiatives, life skills education, psychosocial support, and climate awareness at community level, ensuring children are healthy, resilient, and ready to learn while communities build long-term adaptive capacity.
We shape education policies through advocacy campaigns, stakeholder engagement, policy dialogues, and research publications, influencing systemic reforms and driving sustainable change for children and communities across Tanzania.
Uwezo Tanzania builds the capacity of other organizations and institutions to deliver high-quality, evidence-based education programs at scale. Working with more than 360 civil society organizations and government agencies, we strengthen partners’ skills in assessment, data use, community engagement, and accelerated learning approaches such as Jifunze. Through technical support, learning exchanges, and shared tools, we enable partners to adapt, sustain, and scale effective interventions that improve learning outcomes and advance equity across Tanzania.
